Pilates

Pilates is a system of conditioning, toning and strengthening exercises which can help to restore comfortable movement after an injury and reduce the risk of future problems.

It was devised by Joseph Pilates back in the 1920s, and is widely used by physios and recommended by doctors as an excellent way to look after your body. The idea is that by learning how to effectively use your deep abdominal and spinal muscles, you can create a strong core, helping you improve your posture and move more efficiently. It’s also a relaxing way to tone up and improve fitness and flexibility.

Pilates is a system that helps all sorts of people, from those new to exercise right through to athletes and dancers. But perhaps its greatest strength is its ability to help people with back, hip or shoulder problems, poor posture or work-related pain. It’s also ideal before or after childbirth.

At The Lilley Clinic, we offer one-to-one Pilates sessions with our experienced physios, giving you the peace of mind that you’re learning with qualified healthcare professionals. We also have a dedicated Pilates studio called Pilates Plus, where we offer small group classes run by our Physios and our expert Pilates instructors. We have classes at all levels, and can cater for absolute beginners through to those of you who have been practising for years.
