podiatry

Christine Stiles (D.Pod.M, MChS, SRCh) has recently joined The Lilley Clinic where she is establishing a Podiatry (Chiropody) Surgery. Christine is HPC Registered.

I trained in Podiatric medicine at the Chelsea School of Chiropody (in association with St. Mary’s Hospital, Paddington and University of Westminster). Upon qualification and Stat registration in 1980 I worked in a variety of NHS Hospitals and GP Surgeries prior to establishing a large practise in Weybridge, Surrey in 1983. I moved away from my practice in May 2004 following my family’s relocation to Marlborough.

As a Podiatrist (the title by which Chiropodists are now known) I am involved with the treatment of foot problems in patients of all ages (infants to senior citizens) and both sexes. This may entail routine treatment (corns, calluses, nail problems etc.) verrucae treatments, biomechanics (assessing the interaction between the whole body and specific foot problems), and health education particularly in relation to children’s feet. Also nail surgery (a simple procedure under local anaesthetic for the treatment of ingrown toe nails.).

Some patients, without medical problems may only require six monthly "check-ups". Other patients, pre-disposed to foot problems due to factors such as: occupation, sport, fashion footwear or medical conditions such as diabetes, arthritis, rheumatology or orthopaedic conditions, etc., may need more regular appointments.

To provide overall patient care I work with a multi-disciplinary approach liasing closely with GP’s, Consultants, Physiotherapists, Chiropractors, Osteopaths and appropriate complementary therapists.

Referral may also be made to Podiatric Surgeons and other specialists for patients with advanced problems.

Earlier this year the profession of Podiatry became "closed" and non-state registered practitioners were "grand parented" into the profession. As a result the term "Stat registered" Podiatrist will no longer be used to identify certain sections of practitioners. Instead, registration with the Health Professions Council (HPC) is now needed to show that they are HPC registered.
